The Motorway Police was established in 1997 as Model Police for patrolling on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway. The exceptional performance of National Highways and Motorway Police was a result of officers integrity, courtesy and enthusiastic help to commuters in distress. Ensuring safety and security of road users is the prime responsibility of the Motorway Police. Its need of time that the driving licensing issuing procedure and registration of vehicles must be centralized. It must be ensured that driving licenses are only issued to qualified people. The driving licence issuance mechanism of NH&MP DLA is transparent and flawless. The Inspector General, National Highways & Motorway Police AD Khowaja expressed these views during an address in NH&MP Road Safety Program “An Hour with the Gust “On this occasion renowned columnist & Anchor Javed Chaudhary has lauded the performance of NH&MP and said that it is need of the time that Motorway Police equip itself with modern gadgets to control traffic accidents on Motorways and Highways. He lauded the role of NH&MP in imparting road safety education and awareness to the common road users, with an aim to reduce the number of accidents.
. He further said that more deaths have been recorded in road traffic accidents than terrorism. Safety Cones, Torch, Reflecting Jackets, fire extinguisher and other safety Tools must be available in vehicles for saving precious lives in case of accidents. He also said that this equipment must also be made available at all shopping centres on Motorways and Highways. He also emphasized that the targets of progress and prosperity cannot be achieved without awareness of Road Safety and traffic rules
